Key Components
Mod 4 covers several essential areas that every driver must master:
1. Vehicle Safety Checks
Drivers must demonstrate comprehensive inspections to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy. This includes checking the condition of tyres, lights, and bodywork, as well as confirming that all panels and parts are secure.
2. Safe Loading
Understanding how to load vehicles securely is crucial. Proper loading prevents accidents and ensures that the vehicle remains stable during transit.
3. Security
Drivers must know how to secure both the vehicle and its cargo effectively. This is essential for preventing theft and ensuring the safety of transported goods and must be able to demonstrate the different methods.
4. Emergency Situations
Responding appropriately to emergencies can save lives. Drivers will need to demonstrate knowledge of handling various emergency scenarios, such as breakdowns, accidents or bridge strikes.
5. Driver Responsibilities
Ensuring vehicle roadworthiness is a legal obligation. Drivers must perform daily checks and report any defects. Failure to do so can result in fines, penalties, or even legal action.
During the test, you will also be assessed on five key topics, each worth 20 points. To pass, you need:
-
At least 15 out of 20 in each topic area
-
An overall score of 80% or higher
