Midway Truckstop
Located just off the A49 in Prees, next to a large council-owned hardstanding car park, you'll find a small collection of roadside eateries. The car park is popular for taking a break, swapping trailers, or parking up overnight. There are payment signs dotted around the site, although there doesn't appear to be much evidence of enforcement.
Â
The first place that catches your eye is The Midway Truckstop. Its bold white, red, and blue exterior stands out from the roadside, while the signs proudly advertising "All Welcome" and "Home Cooked Food" make it look like an inviting place to pull in for a bit to eat.
Step inside and you'll find an old-school café atmosphere, complete with plastic chequered tablecloths and mismatched furniture. It can feel a little dark because the dining area is packed with tables and chairs, but don't let that put you off. It's a welcoming spot to stretch your legs, get out of the cab, and enjoy a decent meal.

The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the menu is reasonably priced with a good selection of home-cooked favourites as well as quicker options if you're in a hurry. There's also outdoor seating at the front for those who prefer to eat outside.

The diner is clean, service is quick, and judging by the number of regulars and satisfied customers, the food is clearly popular. If you're on a tight schedule, you'll appreciate not having to wait long.

Facilities are fairly basic. There's a TV inside and customer toilets, but beyond that it doesn't offer the wider amenities you'd normally associate with a traditional truckstop.
I've always found this little group of businesses slightly confusing. There are usually plenty of trucks parked up, and with "Truckstop" in the name, you'd expect the full range of truckstop facilities. In reality, it's much more of a roadside diner than a modern truckstop.

If you're looking for somewhere to pull over, grab a good-value meal, and take a break, The Midway Truckstop is well worth a visit.

One thing to bear in mind is that Thursday evenings are biker nights. The car park can fill up quickly, particularly during warmer weather, so parking may be limited and it won't be the quietest place for an overnight stop.
