Raven Cafe Truckstop
Located just off the A49 in Prees, The Raven Cafe and Truckstop is easy to find. As you come off the roundabout, you'll see a hardstanding parking area directly ahead, with a the large brick-built café building on the right-hand side.
The truckstop offers around 30 parking spaces, with parking available through SNAP. Unlike the nearby council-owned car park, it's set back from the dual carriageway, making it a slightly quieter option for an overnight stay. Parking costs £25, which includes an £8.50 meal voucher, adding a bit of value if you're planning to eat on site.
Inside, you're welcomed by a spacious dining area, with an additional seating section to use during busier periods. The layout has more of a traditional work canteen feel, complete with plastic trays and mismatched furniture. While it's certainly not luxurious, it's clean, practical, and does exactly what you'd expect from a busy roadside cafe
The menu offers a wide selection of reasonably priced home-cooked meals, with something to suit most appetites. The Raven is particularly well known for its popular Sunday carvery, served until 2:30pm each week, which attracts both locals and passing drivers. There's also outdoor seating available if you'd rather eat outside.
Facilities include customer toilets and showers, which are clean, functional, and perfectly adequate for freshening up after a long day on the road. There's also a TV in the dining area and free Wi-Fi, giving drivers somewhere to relax out of the cab during their break.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the whole site is clean. That said, the truckstop is fairly basic by modern standards. Some areas of the building are beginning to show their age and could benefit from a refresh, while the hardstanding parking area is a little uneven and dusty in places. It's also worth noting that the site isn't gated or fenced, which may be a consideration for anyone staying overnight.
If you're planning to stop on a Thursday evening, be aware that the nearby council-owned car park hosts a popular biker night. During the warmer months, the whole area can become much busier than usual, with increased traffic and limited parking nearby.
It's also worth keeping an eye on future developments, as land close to the truckstop has been earmarked for a new KFC and Starbucks. Construction is expected to bring changes to the area over the coming months, which could alter the overall feel of the site.
Overall, The Raven Café and Truckstop is a straightforward, no-frills place to stop. It may not have all the facilities of some larger truckstops, but if you're looking for a quieter overnight parking spot, a hearty home-cooked meal, and a friendly welcome, it's a solid
option when travelling through the area.
