Bringing Peoples Visions to Life: Rolling Works of Art

With more than 30 years of experience behind them, Rotherham-based Scott Airbrushwork has become a widely recognised and highly respected name throughout the haulage industry.
The business was founded by Andy Scott, who has built his reputation by turning his hand to all aspects of vehicle paintwork, including traditional signwriting. Over the years, he has developed an impressive portfolio of artwork and earned a loyal following.
Andy’s son, Tom, grew up around the business and naturally took an interest in the work his dad was doing. He would help out whenever he could around school and began picking up the tips and techniques of the trade along the way.
With a natural flair for drawing and a keen interest in art, it wasn’t long before Tom decided to follow in his dad’s footsteps. He joined the family business and, over time, gradually took on more responsibility, allowing Andy to step back while Tom continued to develop the business and his own style.
Creating the perfect piece of artwork on a vehicle takes far more than simply picking up an airbrush. There is lots of planning, creativity and teamwork involved.
When a customer approaches Scott Airbrushwork with an idea, Tom works closely with them to bring their vision to life. He will offer suggestions and make tweaks where needed, ensuring the finished design is something the customer will be proud of.
Before any paint is applied, proofs are supplied so customers can see how their finished design will look. Once the design is approved, the artwork can begin.
Tom says: “We are lucky to be able to work alongside some of the best painters in the country. This provides the perfect base for our artwork and allows us to create something unique for each customer.”
Once the artwork is complete, it is finished with the very best quality lacquer before being polished to achieve a glass-like finish.

One of the benefits of Scott Airbrushwork’s mobile service is the ability to work closely with paint-shops, body-shops and other truck-styling businesses.
This can be particularly important when working to tight deadlines. Rather than customers having to wait for each stage of a build to be completed before the next can begin, everyone can work alongside each other. It is like several people completing their own section of a giant jigsaw puzzle, with each piece eventually coming together to create the finished vehicle.
Although Tom can work in garages, workshops and paint facilities across the country, provided they have suitable lighting and facilities, the business has recently taken another exciting step by moving into its own fully insured, dedicated unit.
The new facility will allow Scott Airbrushwork to offer a convenient roll-in, roll-out service, while giving Tom much greater control over his working environment. Lighting and temperature can be managed more effectively, and jobs can be planned around the existing workload.
The unit will also reduce time spent travelling, giving Tom more time to concentrate on what he enjoys most, creating artwork.
Ask Tom what he particularly enjoys painting and portraiture is high on the list.
Using a combination of projected images and freehand painting, he can create highly realistic portraits that seem to come to life on the side of a vehicle.
Whether it is a favourite musician, an idol, a much-loved character or a special memorial piece, the possibilities are almost endless. Every project is different, and that is part of what makes the work so enjoyable. Seeing ideas go from concept right through to completion is so rewarding explains Tom.
Of course, the job does come with its challenges. Temperature is a major factor that many people may not realise can have an impact on vehicle artwork. If conditions are too hot or too cold, the paint can react differently, potentially slowing the job down.
Having their own dedicated unit will help Tom manage these conditions more effectively, giving him greater control over the temperature and working environment.
Scott Airbrushwork is responsible for some truly impressive airbrush artwork, with its work having picked up awards across the UK and Europe. Looking at the attention to detail and quality of the finished pieces, it is easy to understand why.
Behind every transformation is a combination of passion, hard work, patience and dedication. With Andy’s decades of experience and Tom’s natural artistic flair, the father-and-son team has created a business capable of turning customers’ ideas and dreams into rolling works of art.
For Scott Airbrushwork, it is not simply about painting a truck. It is about creating something personal, unique and eye-catching, something that the customer can admire and be proud to take out on the road.
